For the past 30 years I have made hundreds of different natural herbal beauty products, many were successful and some more challenging. The problem with creating natural beauty products is they usually do not have a long shelf life because they contain no synthetic preservatives.
Over the years l created DIY face masks for different skin types or conditions that are made with a combination of clays and powdered herbs and flowers. I perfected the dry mask method a few years ago that stores well and works amazing! Great for customizing to your particular changing needs.
The ingredients are clays- Bentonite, Fullers Earth, Rhassoul, French Green & White cosmetic clays about 70-80% clay blend and 20-30% ground/powdered Herbs & Flowers good for skin- Lavender, Yarrow, Calendula, Alfalfa, Burdock, Turmeric and Marshmallow (+many more!) I usually pick 1-2 clays and 2-4 different herbs & flowers for a desired result- Skin Whitening (Bentonite & Fuller’s Earth Clays, Yarrow & Marshmallow) Acne/Oily Skin (Bentonite & French Green Clays, Alfalfa & Burdock) as examples.
To Make DIY Mask- Combine Clays & Herbs of choice in a clean bowel, mix well. Spoon into clean jars or thick plastic bags and label/date your product. Store in a dry, cool location away from humidity and light while not in use. They also make great gifts.
To Use & Apply- in a clean bowl combine about 1 tablespoon DIY Clay Mask with 1 teaspoon water, milk, tea or orange juice. Stir with a spoon until it becomes a thickened spreadable, paste- add more water if too thick, more mask if too runny. Apply to clean skin- Face, Neck and upper Chest area or other problem area. Leave on for 15-30 minutes, then wash off with water or cleanser of choice.
Wetting skin prior to application may make it easier. Avoid applying to close to eyes or other sensitive areas. If you have sensitive skin apply on a test spot on your inner forearm to see if you have a reaction before applying to large areas. Masks also may be a bit messy, use older or dark towels for cleanup.
